Finnish special needs teacher moving to the UK

Postby jinka86 on Mon Jan 23, 2017 6:30 pm

Hi

My partner is currently in the final stages of her masters at The University of Jyvaskyla in Finland. She is specialising in special needs teaching and has had many short-term work experiences in schools. Last year in the 2015/16 Summer term, she worked at the Selly Oak Trust School in Birmingham and led many classes to a classroom of special needs children, mostly with autism.

So my question is, can she go straight into teaching within the UK or does she need a UK-specific teaching qualification to be a special needs teacher in UK schools?

For what it’s worth, she received a very nice recommendation from the Selly Oak Trust School and they would happily take other Finnish students from her uni because they were very impressed.

Thanks in advance for any help.
