first placement

Hi all
I decided to do the pgce in design and technology, and am now into my first placement. Thing is the expectation seems so high,and I wondered if this is typical. I had three weeks of going in two days, and those were fine. However, on the first day of the full time program I was timetabled in for a double practical. Go take your class, I was told, and off I went. I did not expect at this stage to be left alone to run the class completely. I thought we would be doing the lessons jointly at first with more being handed over to me as the weeks went on. That one went ok, but I have had disasters since, and my mentror does nothing to help during the lesson, but crucifies me after!

Is this the way it is and am I wrong to winge? I just thought I would get training before being expected to fly
