GTP advice needed

Postby fergi on Fri Nov 20, 2009 2:49 pm

Hi Everyone

This is my first time posting and I am hoping that someone will be able to give me some advice. I'm going to apply to do both the PGCE and the GTP. I would prefer to take the GTP route as I have already completed the majority of a PGCE 5 years ago but was unable to finish due to circumstances that were out of my control.

I have two questions; my first question is regarding the preparation for training that will be expected on application. I am aware that I need to have completed at least three weeks of classroom experience and I am in the process of organising that at the moment. I am interested to know how much knowledge of the national curriculum and the teaching process the training provider will expect me to demonstrate. Does anyone have any experience of the GTP application process?

My second question is regarding my personal statement for the GTP. How does this personal statement differ from one that is intended for a university application? Also, does anyone have any hints or tips for writing a really good personal statement.

Actually, there is a third thing, could anybody recommend some good books that cover the main theories in education?

Thanks for reading this. Looking forward to receiving some much needed good advice.
