Teaching Math with online games

Postby ella.rogers on Thu Feb 04, 2010 9:58 am

My students are totally engaged when I include online math games within a lesson or as homework. The repetition and association that games = fun really helps them capture the subjects.

My class really enjoys MangaHigh.com, a new site with Algebra, Geometry, Quizzes, etc.

Has anyone else had success with online math games? http://www.mangahigh.com

Thanks a million. Very useful indeed. I've taken a quick look at the links and I think this could be quite an interesting path to follow. Once again thankyou very much.

That's really great. Children will love to learn Maths now as now they will have fun in learning Maths. Thanks a lot for sharing it with us.

No problem! I find that it works well in conjunction with classroom based teaching. So start off a lesson with a game on a new topic. Let the kids play around and figure some things out themselves. After a while, stop the game and go through the topic as usual in class. Then conclude the lesson with the same game and see how well they have understood the topic.

This is absolutely brilliant. It is a pedagogical skill a teacher can use to impart the specialized knowledge of maths. http://www.mangahigh.com is excellent for its simplicity, interactivity and innovation. It is highly resourceful and attractive. I love it. My concern is just that when you use this style in the classroom, with every learner having their own computer, some students might seize the opportunity to visit sites which are irrelevant to what you are teaching.

Can you please suggest what to do when this happens?
