Classroom management

Postby dalbirsingh on Sat Dec 19, 2009 11:02 pm

I have a class that are very disruptive and do not like doing any work, and find it hard to keep them engaged for the whole lesson.
Any suggestions of keeping difficult/disrutptive learners engaged throughout the lesson?

I believe you should attend a workshop on teacher training. Today lots of organizations are accessible which organize Professional Development Workshops for Teachers. There you will also learn class management. I hope you will get benefit of it. :welcome

I think that it is important to work in a culture of discipline - which should be initiated by management.

If you do not have support from above you would feel very isolated.

I think the problem is because we teachers want to show too much respect for the students, but the students take it as 'There is no level of discipline and no level of respect necessary then’. The teacher should show s/he is in control here. With the knowledge of the Head teacher, we should always put up an attitude of ‘no too much screaming though, but then no too much laughing’. We should not allow any difficulty even from our own sides or over-bearing situations to weigh us down

As ‘Reflective practitionist’, we need to look back and see how our own teachers have taught us successfully and utilise these methods where appropriate.

If anyone thinks otherwise, let us know.

Let them respect you. Show them that you are authoritative in the class somehow. It is nice to treat them in your friendliest way, but sometimes that should not be the way. Give in to exciting ways to teach lessons so they would be cooperative.
